D’Banj’s mum used to make decisions for MoHits’ for a very long time.
Nigerian rapper Ikechukwu Onunaku, popularly known as Ikechukwu, has revealed that D’banj, the co-founder of the now-defunct Mohits Records, used to give him N50,000 from shows he got booked for N2 million while he was at the label.
Ikechukwu made this known in an interview with media personality, Daddy Freeze.
He said D’banj had to consult his mother before increasing his pay to N150,000
The rapper revealed that MoHits was primarily run by D’banj’s mother. According to him, no decision was made without Bangalee’s (D’banj) mother giving the go-ahead.
He said, “Banga [D’banj] is going to hate this when I say this. But the truth is the truth. When we used to go on the road, dem go pay Banga money, Banga go do like say e dey do me favour, him go give me N50k, back then I used to book like N1.5m, N1m, N2m.
“He increased it one time after we don fight, he increase am say ‘e talk to mummy, we go increase am to N150k.
When Daddy freeze asked who mummy is, Ikechukwu responded by saying, “Mummy is Dbanj’s mum, she was part of the record label spiritually. Ask Don Jazzy, dem no dey make decisions without momsi giving the okay for a very long time.”
Mohits disbanded in 2012, with the co-founder, Don Jazzy, who confirmed the breakup, citing differences in interests as the reason.
